We are finally getting things together after the move. The Living room  at my daughters is semi finished. -One side of it anyway!  The one end table has been around since my momma's day, and I was lucky enough to find one just like it. I had them for years, they are from the 40's. And now they are my daughter's!

The  fabric on the pillows is so luxurious.
More pics will go on the walls to accent some of the colors in the throw pillows.

The furniture is that microfiber stuff. it looks like leather, or suede but it's not and it is more comfy!

We still have tons of work to do but we're getting there!

Thanks for all the positive comments from the girls from mom loop!
I'll be checking out some of those great blogs you girls have over there.

 Moving Day!
My daughter and I have been busy moving the business and her living quarters to a new location. Wow! It's a lot of work. I really like to see the progress of designing a room and it is always fun to track the progress with pictures, so that is what I will be doing. We started moving Monday, I took some pics with my blackberry today.
A lot of stuff has been put away but certainly not everything..The kitchen and bath are set up and the fabric and office are set up but the bedrooms and the craft room are a work in progress.

  • Below are "now" pics of what will be the craft room! (it will be last to get done)

As soon as I get time to work on them and make them pretty rooms I will post some "after" pics.

  • The living room will be the first to get a transformation! Here it is now! Moving day. It will get a new sofa set...soon.

  • Last but not least will be the guest bedroom, sorry this is blurry I was fading fast!

I am using only what I already have.
I am allowing myself to spend only 50 dollars on this room.

Time for me to get some rest!

The Art of Decoupage

 The Art of Decoupage
....the art or technique of decorating something with cut-outs of paper, fabric, plastic, or other flat material over which varnish or lacquer is applied.

My decoupaged desk

I recently repainted a desk that was all scratched up old wood. Again I didn't take a picture because it was so nasty looking that my kids were telling me to just throw it away. It had been in the basement waiting for a rescue, and the handles on it were loose and my teenagers would spin the handles, digging into the wood and causing a big circular scar around were the handles once Regally graced those drawers.
I decided to save it and transport it to my shore house where I could capture the serenity of the sea, and deliver some much needed body work to this once fabulous desk.
After cleaning it considerably and priming it up, I gave it a nice smooth coat of white. And then...
I wasn't too happy with the gouged out wood by the handle area., but I came up with a great idea.

I had a wallpaper border just laying around. I cut it to fit the drawer fronts. It is pre-pasted so all I had to do is wet it and set it on. When that was dry, I added some new drawer pulls and Viola! ...
Not too shabby!

You could also do this same thing with your favorite fabric and some mod-podge  a decoupage glue.

I think it looks adorable! And now I have a place to fix my hair.

The clutter from make-up, brushes, lotions, deodorant, etc, all goes in this "Home Goods" box!

Hand painted by my clever daughter this Mother's Day gift tray from a few years back
holds some of my seashells for a nice final touch!

Ok the bedroom is finally done. Below are the pics. I think it came out even better than the inspiration room! I love it. The pillows from Home Goods are reversable and washable with zippers. The rag quilt was either Domestications or Brylane Home I forget.  I'm sorry I didn't take before pics but it was pretty pityful. Now it is my sanctuary. I love the texture of the rag quilt, and the ticking stripes on the cozy comfy pillows.

The lamps I found at "Home Goods." I love how they match the bed spindles.

And they even pic up the floral in the quilt, it's not the same floral but.. I am loving it!
The colors are perfect.

And the whole room
Is a joy to be in!

Such happiness and contentment from fabrics and textures!

This is the inspiration room for my bedroom at my seaside cottage.

I searched high and lo for a similar quilt and great pillows.
But I knew I wanted mine to be more shabby chic, to have more variety than just blue and white. Wanting the total tone of the room to reflect blue and white but with roses and some shades of pink, and I wanted some nautical stripes. It took me a few years but I finally found one that I absolutely LOVE. So whatdya think? This is the quilt that I found:

A gorgeous rag quilt!

I found a great tutorial for  making a rag quilt here

And the hunt for the perfect pillows ended when I spotted these at
Home Goods ( my personal addiction).

One side is floral, the other side is a great nautical ticking stripe, and they have zippers for easy washing... yeooowsie!.. Did I hit paydirt!!

And super awesome lamps that match the bed spindles.

Next post I will show how it all comes together.
