Old Chair gets a Beachy Lift

I had this old chair that I purchased around 1995 that was desperate for a re-do.It started out in my bedroom at home as a little escape for reading. Then it got pushed out of there for a exercise bike and relegated to the basement to withstand some character building abuse from the kiddos.
So in mercy, I drug it down the shore and stuffed into my tiny serene bedroom, where it hardly got any use till recently, when we had the back deck renovated and made it into a sunroom right off my bedroom which now houses all kinds of comfy furniture for taking in the view.
So here is the before.... hardly fitting in with the beach vibe we were going for....right?

I really wanted to find a fabric similar to the one in this Coastal Living magazine picture below.
With a bit of a nautical vibe. (This was in my vision file since 2002)
My vision file is just a file of stuff I love.

So I finally found the fabric I would use!
But I am such a procrastinator some times.
This was one of those times. I'd made a slipcover once before for my sofa and I sewed for 12 hours straight, just stopping for nourishment! It's not something I am great at and didn't really look forward to.
Finally though this job was going to get done!

And here is the end result:

It fits in the room much better now in it's new skin. And it's still one of my most comfy little chairs!

Well done! And that sure does look like a comfy chair...one that you could read in for hours or have a nice cup of coffee while watching the sun come up. Enjoy!

Stopping by from Mckmama's Community. Have a great weekend!

How nice, I agree that it's hard to find beachy striped fabrics for some reason... It looks much more at home.

Stopping by from the frog blog. I love the new chair! I love all things striped! I was a *tad* dismayed when you said you were sewing for 12 straight hours for a sofa slipcover! I have one looming in front of me in the next month or so...not I'm freaked out! I hope mine doesn't take that long. :/

Hey Eileen,
Wow - i'm impressed! I'm also not crafty or "sewy" at all so I'm in awe of people who have such a terrific way with fabrics. My daughter is already showing signs of this talent at 6 years old - maybe in a few years she can teach me a thing or two! :-) Anyway, just stopping by from the Blog Frog Saturday Support. Thanks for hosting!

You make me want to get out my little machine and go at it! lol.... I've got two couches in my livingroom that desperately need a facelift, and will NOT be replaced until the children are older! lol

Looks GREAT! Did you ever watch Christopher Lowell? He had his own show many years ago and liked to do room make-overs! Wonderful Job!!!

Sandy, Please don't let the fact that my sofa slipcover took me so long. it was my first big project, and to be honest, although I sell fabric, I'm surely not much of a sewing expert.
Janet, Yes I believe I have one of his books still.
Thank you all so much for your visits!

Wow!!! The chair looks amazing! It really goes with the room! You are very creative!!!
I commented under you on Day 17 of 31 DBBB and saw you wanted someone to check out your blog.

I think it looks great! It's easy to read, easy to navigate, your purpose comes through loud and clear. I really like the clean look of your blog a lot.
There really isn't much I can say that you need to "fix"! The only thing is maybe getting your header centered. But it's really not that big of a deal! Your site is fantastic!
Would you mind checking out my site?
